Law enforcement agrees to Citation moratorium extension

Due to the DMV being closed from March 18 to June 2, there is an expected backlog of 3 months.

Oregon law enforcement agencies have agreed to extended the citation moratorium through October 1 for expired driver licenses, permits, ID cards, and vehicle registration.

The grace period is intended to allow Oregon residents to continue driving while they are waiting for an appointment and DMV works through the backlog due to COVID-19 restrictions. Law enforcement can verify the status of a driver or vehicle electronically during a traffic stop.

Other government agencies and businesses are encouraged to exercise similar flexibility and understanding when presented with an Oregon DMV-issued credential that expired during the pandemic and the limited access to government services.
